How hangi have changed thought the years

Hi, bloggers
Today for our inquiry we had to make a poster about how hangi have changed from how they were before. My poster describes the difference in how they look, the size, and many other things. Now they take a lot less time to cook than what they use to and have a lot more modern ways of cooking.

Ta moko tradition

 Hi bloggers,

This term for inquiry we are doing it about cultures, for this task we had to pick one thing to research out of ta moko, Korowai/kakahu, or the haka. I chose a ta moko. They are tattoos on your face that Moari does this to show that they are Moari and to show who they are. They use to be done with uhi dipped in a dark pigment, ta, now they are usually done with needles but some people still do it the traditional way. Usually, the design is of your family, prosperity, travel, strength, your career path, or a Maori tribe.

Writing review

 Hi bloggers,

Throughout the past couple of days, I have been researching and reading about dreams, for our literacy task this week we had to research a topic that's we had questions about then write a review on the topic. I chose dreams and dreams were are a very interesting topic to research with lot of information. Here is my questions and my review on dreams:

Questions

What do dreams have to do with our actual life?  scientists have noticed that people don’t usually dream about random things and that their dreams do usually have something to do with themselves and their lives.

  • There is something called lucid dreaming where you know that you are dreaming and you are incontrol of your dreams

Why do we have dreams we don’t remember?  Your hippocampus is the last thing in your brain to in your brain to go to sleep which is very likely its last to be awake, so you could have this part where you wake up with a dream in your short term memory, but since your hippocampus is not fully awake you can’t keep that memory anymore.

  • Some people don’t remember any dreams but it is most likely that they did but they forgot about it.

  • You easily recall a dream if you are awake at the right time

  • You are most likely to remember a dream in the REM stage of sleeping, which is usually when you have dreams.

How long do most dreams actually last? Dreams last anywhere between a few seconds and 20-40 minutes, if the dream is longer it is usually in the morning before you wake up.

  • According to the national sleep foundation The average person dreams 4-6 times per night.

Why do we have nightmares?  People usually have nightmares because of trauma, sleeping disorders, anxiety or even just a problem happening can trigger nightmares.

  • Usually nightmares happen on the last 3rd of the night.

  • research suggests as many as 71 percent people who’ve experienced trauma have regular nightmares.

Why do some of our dreams reoccur multiple times ?

Recurring dreams usually mean there is something in your life you don’t know that is causing stress of some sort. The dream repeats because you have not done anything to stop the problem. Another theory is that people who have recurring dreams have some sort of trauma in their past they are trying to deal with.

Review

Through the research I have found out how dreams are created and why certain things happen throughout your dream that you probably won’t know. Dreams can be very different each time and make a good topic to talk about.

Scientists have noticed that people don’t usually dream about random things and that their dreams do usually have something to do with themselves and their lives, which means most of the things you dream about you have probably come across.Random things may become boring sometime this is where lucid dreaming happens. Lucid dreaming is a dream that you can control and you know you are dreaming, so you are probably dreaming about things you have seen before.

We have at least 4-8 dreams a night that are anywhere from a few seconds to 40 minutes long. and most of those we don’t remember. We have dreams we don’t remember because your hippocampus is the last thing in your brain to go to sleep which is very likely its last to be awake. So you could have this part where you wake up with a dream in your short term memory, but since your hippocampus is not fully awake you can’t keep that memory anymore, which is why we don’t remember most dreams. Your dreams are easier to remember in the 3rd stage of REM sleep, REM sleep is Rapid eye movement and is when you are most likely to have all your dreams.

Throughout the years you have probably had a dream that has reoccured before, have you ever wondered why?. Recurring dreams usually mean there is something in your life you don’t know that is causing stress of some sort. The dream repeats because you have not done anything to stop the problem. Another theory is that people who have recurring dreams have some sort of trauma in their past they are trying to deal with.

People usually have nightmares in the last 3rd of the night. Most nightmares are caused by trauma, sleeping disorders, anxiety or even just a problem happening can trigger nightmares. Research suggests as many as 71 percent people who’ve experienced trauma have regular nightmares.

People have and see very different dreams because there are so many different dreams that you can have. Dreams are very interesting to research about, with lots of facts that can be very useful.

Super sign language

 Hi bloggers,

This week is the New Zealand national sign language week, 14 years ago sign language came one of the official languages of New Zealand. So for our tasks this week we had to create a video of us signing our name, and we had to go onto sign ninja which is a site that you learn how to sign all different types of things.

As one of the country’s official languages, more than 24,000 New Zealanders use NZSL daily. It is also the 12th most frequently used language out of about 190 languages currently used in New Zealand. There are hundreds of sign-based languages in use around the world, and even within a given language, there can be different ways. For example, people in Christchurch may use slightly different signs than people in Wellington.

Lava lamp experiment

Hi bloggers,
For the past few weeks in literacy we have been doing our own science experiments, we had to figure out what science experiments we want to do, then add variables and research about it, to make our experiment more interesting to others. Me and Ngawai decided to make a lava lamp and see how the different densities affect the speed of the bubbles. We have not yet done our experiment but we will in about a week and post the results.

Hi bloggers,
For the past few weeks, we have been learning about the possibility in maths. For this task, we had to make animation on how to work out how many outcomes there would be if I were to spin the spinner 6 times. The answer ended up being 4096 and was quite easy to explain how to do.

PSA animation

Hi bloggers,
For the past few weeks, we have been doing coding, we had to make animations on codesters about a PSA. We also had to make them moveable so that they are fun and interactive. My one is about littering and to stop littering. I chose this because it thinks that it would fun and get the message across easier, this is more for kids because it is easy to understand for them and has some color added as well for them. The last screenshot is a little bit of the code that I used to make my animation and the first 3 is how they work.

Aurora lights art

Hi bloggers,
In Maori, we have been looking at Matariki and the southern lights/ aurora's, today we started art about the lights.
The name Aurora comes from the Latin word that means sunrise or the Roman goddess of dawn. An Aurora is a natural light that appears in the sky, usually, the color is green but can sometimes be either blue or red. The natural light usually occurs in the 'aurora zone' near the arctic poles, the north, and the south.

Aurora is made by the collision of energetically charged particles with atoms in the high altitude thermosphere within the atmosphere. Auroras are made with the solar winds that flow past Earth. These winds flow out from the Sun and have plasma particles in it that gets pulled into the Earth's magnetic pole fields.

As they accelerate towards the Earth, they occur between these ion parts and nitrogen and oxygen atoms in our atmosphere, giving energy in the form of amazing aurora lights.

For our piece of art, we had to grab a black piece of paper and rip it into a mountain-like shape. After that, we had to get a paintbrush and splatter paint on it to make the stars, then after it drys we get chalk pastels and put it on the white paper that we stuck to our black paper. Once it was on the white paper we used our finger to brush it up. Finally, we had to add the 7 Matariki stars. Here is my art piece:

Binary and ASCII!!

Today we are learning about Binary and ASCII.

Binary is a number system that uses 1’s and 0’s to represent all of our normal set of numbers.  You can use the place values as multiples of 2 to work out how to do it for yourself!  Try watching this video to give it a go yourself!

ASCII is a set of encoded symbols that a computer uses to turn Binary into letters and other symbols from the English language (like what is on our keyboard).  I turned my initials into binary numbers, and then turned those binary numbers into an ASCII code!  Using colors to represent the 1’s and 0’s, my initials in ASCII can be represented by the pattern you see in my image below!

What do you think?  Have you ever tried encoding anything in binary or ASCII?  Could you have a try for yourself?  Can you work out how to write my initials in ASCII from the pattern above?

Irony photos

Hello bloggers,
On Tuesday for our inquiry, we had to get into a group of 3 and then walk around the classroom and take a look at these photos that were about our inquiry which is global issues. The photos were placed around the classroom and we had to write down what we thought each one meant or what it meant to us. As well as that, we had to pick our favorite picture and write at least a paragraph about what it meant to us and what the photo actually meant. I chose my photo because I thought it had a lot of meaning to it.

This week we did had to do chapters 11-14. I think my chapter summary ould have been a little bit longer in chapters 11-13. Have you ever read the Hitchhikers Guide to the galaxy?

For numeracy all week we were doing an isometric drawing, at first, we had to make 3 different shapes with 5 blocks then we had to make 3 different shapes with 10 blocks, and of course, we had to make 1 shape with 15 blocks and shade them.
