Matariki book

Hi bloggers,
The past couple of weeks on Fridays we have been doing Matariki, we had the option to do lots of different activities. I chose to make a book with my friend Hana, I did this because I wanted to create a book and I thought it would be fun. We had to make our books on a book creator, which was really easy to use. Me and Hana decided to make a book based on the tale of Matariki as well.

Binary and ASCII!!

Today we are learning about Binary and ASCII.

Binary is a number system that uses 1’s and 0’s to represent all of our normal set of numbers.  You can use the place values as multiples of 2 to work out how to do it for yourself!  Try watching this video to give it a go yourself!

ASCII is a set of encoded symbols that a computer uses to turn Binary into letters and other symbols from the English language (like what is on our keyboard).  I turned my initials into binary numbers, and then turned those binary numbers into an ASCII code!  Using colors to represent the 1’s and 0’s, my initials in ASCII can be represented by the pattern you see in my image below!

What do you think?  Have you ever tried encoding anything in binary or ASCII?  Could you have a try for yourself?  Can you work out how to write my initials in ASCII from the pattern above?

Irony photos

Hello bloggers,
On Tuesday for our inquiry, we had to get into a group of 3 and then walk around the classroom and take a look at these photos that were about our inquiry which is global issues. The photos were placed around the classroom and we had to write down what we thought each one meant or what it meant to us. As well as that, we had to pick our favorite picture and write at least a paragraph about what it meant to us and what the photo actually meant. I chose my photo because I thought it had a lot of meaning to it.

Irony comic strip

Hello bloggers,
For our inquiry this term we are doing it on global issues, but for this task, we had to make a comic strip on irony for my comic strip I did it with Hannah, For our irony comic strip we throw a shoe and one of us was good and the other was bad but then it ends up being the opposite when we do it.
